NHS England has recently forecast that there will be around a quarter of a million new cases of post traumatic stress disorder as a direct consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic. With this tsunami of diagnoses on the horizon, how can we handle a mental health epidemic amongst a worldwide pandemic?
This projection is based on the effects of the pandemic on victims of domestic abuse, on how children and young people have been affected, as well as the experiences of relatives of Covid survivors. One might expect this would also extend to health and care workers also, including those who have sadly lost family and friends in this seriously distressful situation.
All of this is a timely reminder that although our physical health is at the forefront of our focus, our minds matter too. It is perhaps more important than ever to look after our mental health.
How can we address this in the best way? It has been proven that stressful mental issues, including post traumatic stress disorder, respond well to the talking therapies. Here at the Complementary Medicine Centre we can offer hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural therapy to help with post Covid stress issues. Brian Fleming is an expert with decades of experience in Hypnotherapy for stress and many other ailments.
