FEAR AND ANXIETY IN THE MODERN WORLD

Recently at the Complementary Medicine Centre, both in the homoeopathy and the psychotherapy departments, we have noticed that more people than usual have been coming to us with problems relating to existential issues such as fears and anxieties.

In a world which has recently been through both a major pandemic and lockdown, as well as seeing a significant European war  break out, it is not surprising that problems such as anxiety and fear should come up on our therapeutic radar. It was when researching the psychological and philosophical literature relating to fear and anxiety that we were reminded of Martin Heidegger’s comments on this area.

With Heidegger’s training in Edmund Husserl’s structural analysis of pure consciousness system, it is to be expected that Heidegger would have some useful and pertinent thoughts on problems of this sort.

According to Heidegger, anxiety and fear may be as much parts of the solution as they are parts of the problem. Heidegger has commented that we understand and explore our individuality, being and humanity through exploring the nature of our  individual anxieties.

Edmund Husserl is the founder of the school of philosophy known as Phenomenolgy. This is based on a descriptive analysis of inner experiences and subjective processes and shows that by investigating and examining ones interior landscape and in particular, the problematical areas of that landscape, one is able through embarking on an intuitive study of essences to view more clearly, the nature of one’s individual problems and through a clearer view of the problem, the problem is more easily put into an enhanced harmonious and creative perspective.

We are here to help you

At the Complementary Medicine Centre, we often use techniques such as hypnotherapy, including teaching the client how to use self-hypnosis and in conjunction with journalling and other psycho-therapeutic techniques to manage difficulties such as fear and anxiety which can respond well to this approach.

Heidegger has also commented that “Fear reveals the thing to be feared in a fuller way than theory can.”

It’s time for you to conquer fear!
