Many smokers seem to be comfortable with the expectation that the NHS will be able to help them should they contract cancer from smoking.

This might have been the case prior to Covid, and the NHS strikes era that we are now living in, however these are different times.

A health study which featured in a recent BBC news item found that lung cancer shows “almost infinite possibilities in which a tumour can evolve” and is actually much more difficult to eradicate than was previously thought. In fact, after nine solid years of research and tracking lung cancers, the research team involved in this project were “surprised and in awe at the formidable force that they were up against”.

Another important aspect of this study was the researchers’ conclusion that “we need more focus on prevention” rather than cure, as a universal cure is “unlikely any time soon”.

The study – entitled Tracer X – provides the most in-depth analysis of how cancers evolve and what causes them to spread. It also points out that:

“Cancers change and evolve over time – they are not fixed and immutable. They can become more aggressive: better at evading the immune system and able to spread around the body.”

Although Cancer Research UK has stressed that the early detection of cancer is vitally important, even more important is prevention by not taking up smoking in the first place, or quitting the habit as soon as possible.

Here at the Glasgow Complementary Medicine Centre, through our one session protocol hypnotherapy programme, we have helped many people become smoking free.
