Acupuncture is a system of healing which while fairly recent in the Western world, has been practised in China and the Far East for thousands of years. Often seen as being a system of pain relief, acupuncture is in fact used to treat people with a broad spectrum of medical conditions. In a busy acupuncture clinic, an acupuncturist will commonly treat conditions ranging from asthma, arthritis and anxiety, to back pain, depression, preconception care, fertility, infertility, menstrual problems, skin conditions, migraines, rheumatism, high blood pressure and circulatory problems.

Acupuncture is a gentle and safe treatment, equally effective in pregnancy management and in helping with childbirth and it has a proven track record in overcoming addictions such as smoking, alcohol, food and drugs. Many people have acupuncture for prevention, using it to strengthen their constitution, or when they are feeling ill or low but have not been diagnosed as having a specific illness.

According to traditional Chinese medical philosophy, our health depends on the body`s motivating energy, known as qi or chi, flowing smoothly in a balanced way through the body`s energy channels beneath the skin. The chi energy can become unbalanced, leading to illness and by inserting very fine, sterile needles into the energy channels, the acupuncturist can stimulate the body`s self-healing powers and help restore illness and dis-balance, back to balance and health.

Acupuncture is now seen as one of the main medical systems for preventative and supportive health issues.

Ruth works in conjuction with the 3 main fertility clinics in Glasgow using acupuncture for preconception and IVF protocols. She is also involved with local Golf Clubs who regularly refer clients with golfing injuries.

The Complementary Medicine Centre in Park Circus, Glasgow offers a range of therapies which include acupuncture, hair analysis, allergy testing, cranio-sacral therapy massage, homeopathy, counselling and hypnotherapy.
